     Account Safety

Account Safety is keeping your member account safe so other people can't crack your password and hijack your account. Sometimes this happens but, there are things you can do to prevent it. It all starts and ends with your passwords. Proboads is very secure and the only way someone could crack your account is by guessing your password on here or for the e-mail you use on here and doing a forget password. You password should include a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Read below for tips on how to keep your account as secure as you can.

    Your Password

First and foremost is to have a strong password. One mistake many people make is having a short easy password.

    For example:

Don't make your password "Bananas" and then talk about how much you love bananas. Same goes for your favorite sports team/player, band, celebrity etc..."Crackers" aka. People with no life - Pick up on this.

    Password Do's & Don'ts

    Do's

    • Increase the length of your password to 8 or more characters.
    • Use uppercase characters in your password.
    • Use special characters in your password. (@#$*%&#(!(@!{}
    • Use a seemingly random selection of letters and numbers.
    • Use a password that can be typed quickly, without having to look at the keyboard. This makes it harder for someone to steal your password by looking at your keyboard (also known as "shoulder surfing").
    • Change passwords regularly, I suggest every few weeks.

    Don'ts
    • Do not use your first, middle or last name or anyone else’s in any form.
    • Do not use your initials or any nicknames you may have or anyone else’s.
    • Do not use other information easily obtained about you. This includes pet names, license plate numbers, telephone numbers, identification numbers, the brand of your automobile, the name of the street you live on, and so on. Such passwords are very easily guessed by someone who knows the user.
    • Do not use keyboard sequences, e.g- qwerty or asdfjkl
    • DO NOT reveal a password to anyone.

Common suggestions for constructing seemingly random passwords are:

    1. Use the first letter of each word from a line in a book, song, or poem. For example: "Who ya gonna call? Ghost Busters!" would produce "Wygc?GB!”

    2. Use the output from a random password generator. Select a random string that can be pronounced and is easy to remember. For example, the random string "adazac123" can be pronounced a-da-zac, and you can remember it by thinking of it as "A-to-Z,1 through 3." Add uppercase letters to create your own emphasis, e.g. aDAzac.2

    3. Use two short words connected by punctuation, e.g. T1me#0ff

    4. Use numbers and letters to create an imaginary vanity license plate password, e.g. 1H8work!

    Your e-mail

Another way to keep your account safe is not to have your e-mail visible in your profile. "Crackers" can crack you e-mail instead and request a "forgot password" so its also important to have a strong password for the e-mail you use.

Not sure if you have a strong or weak password?
Click here to check your password strength with Microsoft's password checker

Please take all this information into thought when choosing your password. If you think your password is too weak you can modify it in your profile.
