Why was my topic locked? You may be wondering why your topic has been locked and what it means. When a moderator locks a topic, no more replies can be added. You can tell that a topic has been locked by the tiny lock icon beside the the thread title.. There are many reasons why topics are locked, among them: - It is being discussed elsewhere. Someone might have posted a similar topic recently that takes precedence over the newly created thread. Or, there could be a stickied topic discussing the subject.
- It has served its purpose. The topic might contain a simple, objective question which can be answered within one post (i.e., technical details about LiveWire, not someone's opinion about a new movie). Topic authors may also request that their topics be locked.
- It has drifted offtopic. The topic might have turned into spam.
When in doubt, a moderator's specific reasoning can always be found by a simple private message. Moderators will often state in the thread why it was locked. In order to avoid getting your topic locked: - Look at the stickies and FAQs of the forum you plan to post it in before posting.
- Think about whether or not you think your topic is going to turn into spam.
