When my mom uses tampons she gets TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrom) Not b/c she has it in too long, it just happens within the first 20 minutes she has it in. So I've had my period since I was 10 and I've always used pads but with my competitive horseback career it gets really hard to ride while I've got my period. I was thinking about using a tampon during the times I compete but I'm afraid that TSS is genetic. My question is: Is TSS genetic? Will it be safe to use a tampon if it IS genetic?

Hmm I couldn't find anything about it on the internet. I think you should go see your doctor with your mom to find out for sure.

lol yeah but I think thats the only way you will know for sure.. If you really don't want to see a doctor then continue to use pads, Don't take the chance and use a tampon if your not sure.

I did a report on TSS this year for bio. During my research I don't recall seeing anything about it being genetic. Although it would be best to go see a doctor for the right bit of info. But if it's not genetic and you just preferr pads then use them. I don't like using tampons so I almost always use pads, even during sports. It's not easy at times but it feels better then tampons. But to each his own.

Diva Cup!!! Diva Cup!!! www.divacup.comCheck it out. Trust me, though it may sound odd at first, it's amazing. it's more comfortable than tampons or pads, you can leave it in longer, you don't feel wasteful because you're not creating any trash, and best of all, there's NO risk of TSS associated with these cups. Check it out! ^_^ They made my periods wayyy better.

They're more comfortable than tampons, in my opinion. Divacups are made of silicone, which is soft, as opposed to tampons which can feel rough at times.
Yes, you do take it out and dump it out. It's no more gross than a tampon or a pad; either way, you're bleeding, right? Plus, you fold it up before you put it in, and it expands when it's already inside, so it's not uncomfortable to put in.

Do you use a diva cup? In your opinion how wuld you rate it on a scale of 1-10 (1 being worst, 10 being best)

Yes, I use a Diva Cup. I'd give it a 9 on that scale. The only reason I wouldn't give it a 10 is because it takes a while to learn how to put it in and take it out quickly; the first few times I had to spend a while in the bathroom figuring it out, and it can get annoying. But now that I know how to use it, I'm never going back to tampons. I had to use a tampon once a few months ago because I got my period when I didn't have my cup with me, and it was awful!
