I have a friend that has been cutting herself lately. I am really worried that she is trying to kill herself, but she says it isn't about that. I don't understand what is going on with her, and I don't know how to talk to her about it. What should I do?

since cutting usually seems like it is about suicide it can be confusing. I am glad to see you care for your friend so much.
People who cut can do it for different reasons. In your friend's case she could cut to get an emotional release, which blocks the emotional pain she might be having since it transfers to phyiscal pain to a degree. However, cutting could be done for other reasons. You are allowed to express how you feel towards your friend when she cuts, but try to be non-judgmental. Have you asked her why she cuts? Sometimes just asking questions will get you the answers

She may not be cutting to hurt/kill herself but she could accidently hurt/kill herself. You need to tell someone and get her some help right away!~ Good luck with you and your friend I hope everything goes well.
