Well, I've been in a band called Blacktop Record for upwards of three years, and this is the first year we've been serious about it. This band has a songwriting system where our guitarist writes all the music, and I tack on lyrics as sort of an afterthought. Recently (well, actually, ever since we started writing for ourselves), his music has been the sort of watered-down hardcore that I despise and feel uncomfortable putting my name on. Normally, I'd just bite my lip and ride it out until the trends change, but I'm in a position where I write about very serious topics and attach them to a style of music that's set up to mock them. I write very literally about my life experiences (including a drug addiction, suicide, and how NOT to end a relationship...), and I feel as though this writing process is cheapening what I say, to the point where it doesn't even matter. I feel as though I could write 50,000 songs about *beep*ing and nobody would care either way. But, since I'm not that talented, I'm restricted to what I experience (or have experienced, in the case of the former) on a daily basis... Anywho, am I control-freak-starving-artist-fascist who's in need of an attitude adjustment, or does something I'm saying actually make sense? (heaven forbid... :

It makes sense. I'm not exactally sure what your asking? If you are in a band then you should be able to tell other band members what your thinking. If you can't then maybe its time to rethink who is in the band?

I agree a band should be able to stick together, like a small family in a way. If you don't like the way they are going with the music then speak up. They may not like the way you are going, maybe you can come to a compromise something that will work for both of you. If not then I suggest you find someone going in the same direction as yourself.

If they don't like you or whatever after you speak up, then they are probably not the right band for you.
