hi. my name is karlee. i used to have panic attacks all the time but then i got help for them! like before i would get sick and start hyperventilating and stuff to the point where i couldnt walk or talk.. then my 'psychologist' (yes, my parents force me to go to one) helped me through it. she told me these things: know your SIGNS!, if you feel one coming on start working on your breathing. during times when you're not having one then practice your breathing. do it anytime and anywhere. just take DEEP breaths. slowly count to five while breathing in, hold it for 5, then slowly exhale. then when you do feel a panic attack coming on just work on that breathing!, becuase during one if you are hyperventilating or the sort you arent getting enough oxygen to your body and it will go numb. the breathing regulates everything and helps you prevent/get through it. also, if you feel one going on you need to distract yourself. try to find patterns in numbers you see or something like that, or just ask a friend to start singing a random song... hope i helped some! if you have any questions please post or pm me! *hugs*

The breathing tecnique really does work, but there are some ways to prevent panic attacks or help stop. Try learning about Panic Disorder and it's symptoms, so that when you get a symptom, you could try to focus away from it. Like watch a movie or exercise to get your mind away from what cause the anxiety. Also, yoga is a very good way to learn a healthy life style. It helps you relax muscles, learn to breath deeply, and keeps a positive image. If you are getting four panic attacks out of a month, you should really seek help. I would know that since I had it 2 weeks straight, and at the end I...lost a ton of weight and was terrified. Really seek help early out.

Yeah I know the feeling. Have you thought of thinking of happy things? Or Try getting out and being with your friends. Like see a wicked funny movie with them, it always makes me stop my anxiety. If you can't go out, call one up, or a relative works as well. Do you have any dogs? If you do, try walking them. They usually get your mind of your troubles and your attention on them.

yeah, try anything possible to DISTRACT yourself. try any way possible to avoid thinking about what caused your anxiety in the first place and i know it is very very hard to try to breathe during an attack but if you practice when you are alone or anytime you'd be amazed how much it can help when another one comes up, or even keep a paper bag in your backpack or something and just breathe slowly into it in the bathroom or something. i agree with everything witty is saying. you need to find a way to concentrate and focus on something besides what is happening. try to stay positive and think happy thoughts!

You will start getting used to it. If it gets alot worse, just visit your local doctor. They will probably prescribe you with a drug, and it usually gets much better after. I took that medicine for a few months, worked so well.

Deep Breathing: Put one hand on your chest and the other on your stomach. Take a deep breath in and make the hand on your stomach move and the hand on your chest remain still. Takes a bit of practice, but with practice it gets easier. Take a deep breath in and hold it for a count of three. Then breathe it out through your mouth and count to five before taking the next deep breath. This prevents you from hyperventilating during an attack. You need to practice this breathing daily for at least ten minutes so that it becomes an automatic response. Eventually, it comes secondary in nature.
Muscle relaxation: Starting with your toes tighten the muscles for thirty seconds to one minute until they start to ache. Then completely relax the muscle group letting it go limp like spaghetti and repeat the process until you know how to relax the muscle. Repeat this with all the muscle groups- fingers, hands, arms, shoulders, neck, legs. Practice this relaxation daily. When a panic attack hits, you mentally check to see which muscles you have tensed up and then relax them.
Basic/Beginner Yoga- Yoga is a great form of breathing and relaxation. Through the technique you will learn to correctly breathe and get much needed exercise at the same time. Buy a beginner yoga video or enroll in a Yoga class. Practice it daily.
Music- Take some time out every day and listen to relaxing music. Recommended music choices are any soft piano, Windham Hill Artists, Nature Sounds, Jim Brickman, Jesse Cook, Jim Chappell, Steve Halpern, Alex Jones & Doug Cutler, Michael Jones, George Winston, Jonathan Lee.
Exercise- Exercise is the key to beating stress. Take 30 minutes a day and go for a walk outside, if it is raining take an umbrella. The fresh air and exercise are not only good for fighting panic, they are good for your health as well.

Wow, that's what a panic attack is? I had the exact thing but I didn't know it was a panic attack... Anyways, I knew that it started when I became really stressed. I try to make my life more relaxing and try venting. So, yeah basically what everyone else said above. Just do whatever relaxes and makes you happy. Um, as long as it's legal and safe. Never got that breathing thing to work for me tho. I'd always end up hyperventalating and my whole chest would go numb and ache so I wouldn't be able to move....wish I could learn to make it work.
