This is froma Healthwise Handbook. Butterfly bandages are best for closing a long cut. Use an adhesive strip (such as Band-Aid) to provide continuous pressure. Always put an adhesive strip across a cut rather than lengthwise. A butterfly bandage (made at home or purchased) can help hold cut skin edges together: o Using a clean scissors, cut a strip from a roll of 1-inch adhesive tape and fold it sticky side out. Cut notches into the tape as shown in illustration A above. o Unfold the tape; then fold the notched pieces together, sticky side in as in illustration B above. The center of the tape will not be sticky. Keep the part that will be over the cut clean. o Place one end of the tape on the skin. Then pull the other end to close the wound tightly as in illustration C above. o If the cut is long, use more than one bandage. * Apply a clean bandage at least once a day, or when the old bandage gets wet or dirty.

This kind of information is really good if someone hurts themselves badly and is too afraid to get medical help (although i would definately recommend getting medical help if you feel you need stitches or attention to your self inflicted wound) Thanks for posting this WilD CherrY

You're welcome Rachel. Im always glad to help. Do you think we could have a Sub-Board for things like this? And with the 7 signs you should see a doctor about your cut. Like a Self Harm Resource Guide thingy.

thats really good information. in may i did about ten cuts like 2 1/2 or more inches long each within a week.. they were open really wide and wouldnt close. i was scared to death and didnt know how to treat it. my parents still dont know about them but the scars are very large and wide from never being held shut to heal. thanks so much its a real relief! hugs!! -karlee
