this is just something my psychologist told me to do when i have the urge to cut or when i do it to record everything and help find patterns and such so maybe i can fix it. so far it actually has helped some. make a chart and write down: -acting out/self injury thoughts (what you are thinking about doing) -time and date -location -situation (what is going on that made you have these thoughts?) -feeling (scared, angry, etc.) -what would be the result of self injury? (more scars, etc.) -what would i be trying to communicate with my self injury? (that im scared or mad...) -action taken (how were thoughs/feelings communicated/coped with? what did you end up doing because of these thoughts like doing something to distract yourself or did you actually act on your thought?) -outcome(what happened because of the action you took?)
answer all of these and then look back each time a new situation happens and find the things you see in common with what was going on when you had those thoughts. try and find a better way to deal with them or fix the problem.
otherwise you could always try the rubberband method of wearing one on your wrist and snapping it when you have the urge to SI.. just dont abuse it and USE it as a method of SI'ing.
