that sucks ass.... (well yeah i hate pills so thats why i say that) hugs*
yeah some pills are useless and cause deaths only cuz they dont work the way they should work
if you find that a depressant isnt working for you simply ask your doc to get another kind

Your Best friend wants you to go on Zoloft becuase its been knowen to make people commit suicide? I'm not sure thats something I would want my bestfriend to say to me!!
Anti-depressants react to each person differently, Theres no saying whatever they put you on will work. Alot of people have to try MANY different meds before they find one that works for them and it could take over a year because you have to be eased on and off the different medications.
I also don't believe in meds because they do cover the problem, You would become dependant on them because its the only thing that would make things :go away: and then as soon as your off them you have to learn how to deal with everything anyways. So its really a tough call for me. I wouldn't suggest that anyone take medication for depression but its up to you right.
And all meds have tons of side effects so It depends on how you react to them so its good to stay in contact with your doctor and as soon as you feel like somethings not right, Call him or her.

This probably wont help much, considering it was posted in July, but I just wanted to add my $.02 rather than starting a whole new topic or whatever.
I have been on antidepressants [Lexapro] for a pretty short time, but long enough to experience the effects. I'm obviously not a professional, but based on what I've been told by my psychiatrist and what I've had so far, this is what I've got. First of all, it's highly unlikely for anyone to become dependent on an antidepressant. They don't just stick you on the pill then never talk to you again. Medication is almost always grouped with talk therapy. I see my psychologist at least three times a month along with taking medication. It's not a lifetime thing, it just helps you get better until you eventually don't need them anymore.
Depression is like a deep, deep hole. You cannot get out of it yourself. Medications kind of give you the will to help yourself. They don't change your personality or make you super annoyingly happy or optimistic, and they aren't a quick fix.
As for meds causing suicidal thoughts and whatnot, I have heard of that happening with Zoloft, but I haven't yet experienced it with Lexapro. That's something you just have to ask your psychiatrist about.
I hope this is at least somewhat helpful to anyone whose concerned about being put on meds, or whatever. Like I said, just my thoughts and experience.
I hope I'm not breaking the rules with this post, since I know it's kind of old, I apologize if this is the case.

I beg to differ, but okay.
Today, I saw my psychologist. I took the test thingy that she gave me the first time I went in there. I scored a 42 the first time, which is a very high score for the depression.
Thanks to her AND medication (and she thinks mainly the meds) I scored an 11 today.

I am on one called Efexor Its good, I have been on several different AD's (4 or so) and this one is giving the best result. But you should see what your doctor reccomends, because there are many different kinds of depression and AD's are usually very specific.

I posted this thread in July Mikey, ummm so, I'm not going on Anti-depressants after all. But I've slowly been getting better. But I had a friend pass away yesterday, so I'm a little upset.
