I'm not here to brag about how long I've stopped self harming for, I simply want to encourage others to do the same. I've gone 6 weeks without self harming, and in those weeks I havn't once thought about doing anything. Normally I would have been on the edge and ready to do something, I don't know if it's because I now realise the consequences of my actions.
Let's face it there are plenty of consequences that come with self harming. My experiences have made me want to help self harmers and people who think suicide is the right way to go.
Self harming is seen by the public as either attention seeking or just plain stupid. People don't get that we are trying to express what we feel. Feelings of guilt, rejection, hatred, anger, for example. Self harmers are looked upon disapprovingly, they shouldn't be looked down upon just because they need to express their feelings in more physical ways than others.
But on the other hand we shouldn't be abusing our bodies continuously. I know it doesn't seem easy, to give up something that you've relied on for so long, something that makes you feel better, something that is an escape, something that seems to make everything feel right.
But just think, do you actually need to do it? Is it actually accomplishing anything? Why do you do it? Do you even know? Apart from hurting yourself, who else will it hurt? Can you be bothered to keep covering up the scars/cuts? How long till someone you love finds out?
Just remember you can do without.
I don't know what good this has done, just I hope some people read it, and prehaps gain from it.
