Today I told my friend she looked skinny she got reaaaaaaaaaly mad and we had a small tiff about it because I think they are the same thing (thin and skinny) she says no skinny is boones and thin is small and she went on this biggggggggg ordeal about shes THIN not skinny. So what is it? and why the hell did she get sooo angry about it.. right now Im not even sure she is talking to me.

I think of both them words to mean the same. I would find been called 'stick thin' offensive though..
Maybe shes conscious about her weight..and you not knowing she is,yet mention it to her, made her feel really upset about it? That might not be the case, but its just a suggestion

well it depends on the person's vocab...meaning what they think it means---everyone has a different opinion on what words mean.....even if its the same as the dictionary---society is different now--so yeah thats what i think

Dear L.B.:
Not important what we think the word means.
The important thing, is what your friend thinks the words mean. Like stars2mind pointed out, words can mean different things depending on the person's vocab.
If it upsets her - I suggest avoiding that mistake twice. If you still want to be her friend, I suggest apologizing, and talking to her about it.
Good luck. Hope this helps.
