So, are there any fellow veg heads here (aka vegetarians)? I've only been a vegetarian for *one month*, but it's the best decision I've made in my entire life. So, anyone? * I understand that not everyone agrees with my views, but for those of you who are interested, here are some facts pertaining to vegetarianism from www.giveusahome.co.uk/articles/vegetarianism.htm * - In the US alone, 500,000 animals are killed for meat every hour.
- Meat contains absolutely nothing - no proteins, vitamins or minerals - that the human body cannot obtain perfectly happily from a vegetarian diet.
- If we eat the plants we grow instead of feeding them to animals, the world's food shortage will disappear virtually overnight. Remember that 100 acres of land will produce enough beef for 20 people but enough wheat to feed 240 people.
- Half the rainforests in the world have been destroyed to clear ground to graze cattle to make beefburgers. The burning of the forests contributes 20% of all green-house gases. Roughly 1,000 species a year become extinct because of the destruction of the rainforests. Approximately 60 million people a year die of starvation. All those lives could be saved because those people could eat grain used to fatten cattle and other farm animals - if Americans ate 10% less meat.
- In America, 55% of all antibiotics are fed to animals and the percentage of staphylococci infections resistant to penicillin went up from 14% in 1960 to 91% in 1988.

I've really started to cut down on meat, I switched EVERYTHING over to meatless meat. I was talking to [the main admin on Teen Vibe] and she did the same thing. I think we both agreed that it tastes better plus its better for you. I haven't been able to cut off the cheese and milk yet. Soy milk and Rice milk make me want to vomit and I don't know any other alternatives but I hope to be full fledged vegan if I can stomach it or not eat it at all I don't know yet but I am trying I just started about the same time as you. Do you have any good meal ideas? Thats mostly what Im stuck on I want something quick and almost everything I look up has tofu and the texture or it is ..... ew.

I would respond with an intelligent debate backed up with facts and research, but you aren't worth the time. Stop being ignorant, and if you really feel that way, don't post anonymously like a little vagina.
I'd also really like to be vegan, but I know it wont happen at least until I move out. I don't have a whole lot of control when I rely on other people to provide for me, lol.
Personally, I really like Morningstar Farms' "chicken" patties. They taste SO good, and they don't even have a weird texture or anything. Boca burgers are really good too. I'd recommend eating soy rather than veggie products. Veggie products are really fattening. Soy is full of protein and is just way better for you. Also, have you tried flavored soy milk? I really like Silk soy milk, especially the chocolate and vanilla.
And of course you can never go wrong with fruits and veggies, lol.
If you don't drink soy milk, be sure to take a multivitamin. Soy milk contains vitamin B12, which a lot of vegetarians and vegans tend to have a deficiency in. So if you don't drink soy milk, you need to take a multivitamin to get your B12.

I know I said it wasn't worth the time... but I changed my mind OKAY ANIMALS WERE PUT HERE FOR A REASON so we can eat so eat them who cares all the peta.org shit is overblown. Really? I'd like to see some scientific evidence that states that animals were put on earth for us to eat them. P.S. People are animals, too :]peta.org does not represent the entire vegetarian community. The media is only interested in crazy radicals, that's why they get so much attention. And even so, have you ever even been there? Have you ever looked around on the site? Yeah, they're a bit radical, but they have a lot of good information.eat the animals who gives a crap seriously. THEY DONT HAVE FEELINGS they are retarded animals. A lot of people "give a crap." And if even more people cared, there wouldn't be so much famine in the world. I don't know what on earth makes you think that animals don't have feelings. Have you ever accidentally stepped on an animal's foot or seen an animal injured in any way? They definitely feel it. And they have emotions too. Why do you think horses kick? They're scared. Why do dogs' hair stand up when they get ready to fight, or meet a stranger? Why does any animal run from predators? FEAR.
Retarded animals? Did you know that pigs are smarter than dogs AND three year old children? Did you know dolphins can be trained to detect underwater mines/bombs/etc Every single animal is intelligent in some way or another. If they weren't intelligent, they wouldn't survive. They'd be extinct. It's called natural selection. Do you really think chickens are like " oh no guys this dude is going to crush my skull with his fingers now if only humans could stop eating chicken,,,,,ahhhhhhh" NO.No, not in the way that you put it. They may not know the reason that they're being tortured, but they do feel pain, fear, and have basic survival instincts. They feel it when their beaks are crushed and their heads are brutally torn off their bodies. They feel it when they are thrown across the room onto a concrete wall.

aww cute avatar. Animals have feelings, I think its YOU who doesn't have feelings you guest person you. I mean Im not 100% Vegan but I have cut ALOT of meat out of my daily meals. I used to eat meat EVERY NIGHT! but not anymore I've found some substitutes. Im going to try morning star, I haven't tried chocolate or vanilla soy yet but I probably will buy a small bottle and see.
Why is veggie burgers fattening? Are they less fattening then actual meat? I thought they were good for you! I love veggie burgers but they are hard to find around here. I've been thinking about taking a multi-vitamen but when I go to the store theres so many different ones i dont know whats good and whats not :\
Oh and what are foods other then soy that you can use for B12?

I don't exactly know why veggie burgers are so unhealthy, but my mom went on a HUGE health kick for a few years, and did a lot of research. Soy burgers are really good for you, but veggie burgers are really fattening. As to whether they're as fattening as real meat, I don't know.
You can get B12 if you still eat eggs and dairy, but if you're going straight vegan, you need foods that are fortified with B12 like soy products and some breakfast cereals.
Wikipedia
As for supplements, Ive never heard of a vitamin supplement having negative effects on anyone, I'm sure they're all fine, unless of course you're allergic to cobalt/cobalamin which is commonly found in B12 supplements.

Yes, it can. There is evidence to suggest that humans weren't made to eat meat or dairy anyways. We are built like herbivores. We have flat back molars (just like herbivores) whereas carnivores have sharp teeth. We have intestines much shorter and stomach acid 20 times weaker than carnivores (also like herbivores). Herbivores produce saliva that is useful for breaking down plants, and have sweat glands. Carnivores don't have sweat glands, they pant. So, I guess one could say that going 100% vegan is the natural way. Since your diet would consist of mostly raw foods full of essential nutrients, very little fat, and virtually no cholesterol, veganism would be very healthy.
